EPA Proposes To Reduce the Current Ozone Standard Putting Coast Counties At Risk

We have talked much about the EPA’s December 2014 proposal to reduce the current ozone standard from 75ppb to between 65 and 70ppb, with the option of going as low as 60ppb. The opportunity to provide comment on the proposal ended last week. MDEQ provided a lengthy comment for the State of Mississippi with the concurrence of Gulfport and Jackson County provided their specific feedback as well. There is real concern that with a lower standard, both Jackson and Harrison Counties could be in non-compliance with the Clean Air Act (CAA). Here is the decision-making timeline:
